Quick Start Guide

How It Works

From posting your first score to moving your full history to a new phone — a step-by-step walkthrough of everything you need.

1
Post a Score — Search Course
  1. a) Go to the Post tab, tap Search Courses, and enter any part of the course name, city, or state. Tap Search.
  2. b) On the results page, choose a course and tee. Rating and slope load automatically.
  3. c) Select Front 9, 18 Holes, or Back 9. Enter your score and date, then tap Post Score.
  4. d) Your Handicap Index recalculates immediately. Post at least 54 holes (three full 18-hole rounds or equivalent) to unlock your first Handicap Index.
2
Add Course / Edit Course
  1. a) Use this when your course isn't in the database or the course data (rating, slope, par) has changed.
  2. b) Go to the Post tab and tap Add Course. To edit a saved course, open it from Favorites and tap Edit Course.
  3. c) Fill in the required course information — name, tee name, gender, rating, slope, and par for 18, Front 9, and Back 9.
  4. d) Each field shows its validation rules. Once everything is valid, tap Save.
3
Course Handicap & Maximum Score
  1. a) Go to the Post tab and choose a course from Favorites or Search Courses.
  2. b) On the results page, select a course and tee, then tap Course Handicap.
  3. c) Choose Front 9, 18 Holes, or Back 9 to see your Course Handicap, Maximum Score per hole, and net scoring strokes.
4
Back Up on Source Device
  1. a) Open the app on your current device.
  2. b) Go to Settings and sign in to your app account (or create one if you haven't already). This is your account registered in the app — not your Apple ID or Google account.
  3. c) Tap Backup & Restore Scores, then back up your data to the server.
  4. d) Your full score history is now saved to our server.
5
Restore on a New Device
  1. a) Download the app on your new iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.
  2. b) Go to Settings and sign in with the same app account used on the source device.
  3. c) Open Membership and, if needed, tap to restore your subscription — the app checks your current entitlements automatically.
  4. d) Go to Settings → Backup & Restore Scores and restore from the server. All your scores come back instantly.
Important Note

Backup and restore is manual — the app does not automatically sync data across devices. Back up before switching phones to avoid losing your history.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many scores can I post for free?

The free version allows up to 20 score posts. Upgrade to a Premium membership to post unlimited scores.

When does my Handicap Index appear?

Your Handicap Index unlocks after posting at least 54 holes — equivalent to three full 18-hole rounds. A combination of 9-hole and 18-hole rounds can reach 54 holes too.

Can I use this for my individual handicap, not a league?

Yes — this app is designed specifically for individual golfers. If you want to manage a whole group or league, look at the Handicap For Group app available in Settings → Other InfoTalk Apps.

Can I move my data from iPhone to Android (or vice versa)?

Yes. Back up on your current device (Settings → Backup & Restore Scores), then sign in on the new device and restore. Your history transfers across platforms. See Steps 4 and 5 above.

Will my subscription carry over after reinstalling?

Yes. On iOS, just open Settings → Membership — the app checks your current subscription status automatically via the App Store. On Android, your subscription is tied to your Google Play account and restores when you sign in.

Is this an official USGA or R&A handicap?

No. My Golf Handicap Tracker is neither sponsored nor endorsed by USGA or R&A and does not provide an official USGA or R&A handicap index. It is designed for recreational golfers who want WHS-style calculations for their own tracking.

What devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad (iOS 16+), Mac (Apple Silicon M1 and later), Apple Vision Pro, and Android (Android 5.0+). The iOS app is 9.4 MB.
